English & French-speaking psychologist for expats in the Netherlands

Moving to another country can bring exciting new opportunities — but it can also be emotionally challenging. Many expats and internationals experience stress, uncertainty, or loneliness while adjusting to life in a new culture. At the same time, everyone — no matter where they live — can sometimes feel stuck, overwhelmed, or in need of extra support.

At our practice, we provide professional psychological help for adults who want to better understand themselves, regain balance, and move forward with confidence.
You don’t have to face everything on your own. Therapy offers a confidential and supportive space to talk about what’s happening in your life, whether it’s related to living abroad or to other personal challenges such as relationships, work pressure, anxiety, or low mood.

Sessions are available in English and French, online and in-person in Soest (Utrecht area).
We aim to make therapy accessible, flexible, and truly attuned to the needs of internationals living in the Netherlands.

Psychology practice offering therapy in English and French for expats in the Netherlands

Therapy for expats and internationals

Living and working abroad can be a deeply enriching experience — yet it often brings emotional and psychological challenges that are not always visible from the outside. Many expats and internationals balance the excitement of new opportunities with feelings of stress, uncertainty, or disconnection. Adapting to a new culture, maintaining relationships across distance, or finding a sense of belonging can take a toll on one’s wellbeing.

Within our practice, psychologist Willem Geraedts specializes in supporting expats and internationals who are navigating these complex experiences.

Having lived and worked abroad himself for several years, Willem understands first-hand the challenges and rewards of adapting to a new country. This personal experience helps him connect with clients from diverse backgrounds and approach their stories with genuine understanding and cultural sensitivity.

Willem provides therapy in English and French, offering a space where people can express themselves freely in the language that feels most natural and safe. His work focuses on helping clients understand their emotional patterns, build resilience, and reconnect with what gives their life meaning.

We aim to create a supportive and professional environment where internationals can feel understood, grounded, and empowered to make meaningful change — whether they seek help online or in-person at our location in Soest (Utrecht area).

Therapy with Willem can be helpful for a wide range of topics, including:

  • Stress, anxiety, or burnout – feeling constantly tense, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained.

  • Cultural adjustment and homesickness – struggling to feel settled or missing familiarity.

  • Relationship and family issues – navigating communication, distance, or change.

  • Work-related stress and perfectionism – managing pressure or high personal expectations.

  • Depression or loss of motivation – feeling low, disconnected, or without direction.

  • Identity and belonging – exploring who you are when living between cultures.

Whether the challenges are linked to living abroad or to personal circumstances, therapy offers the opportunity to better understand yourself and find new ways to grow, cope, and feel at home — both within yourself and in your surroundings.

Online and In-person therapy

At our practice, we understand that flexibility and accessibility are essential — especially for people living internationally or with busy schedules. That’s why therapy with Willem Geraedts can take place online or in-person at our office in Soest, conveniently located near Utrecht and Amersfoort.

Online sessions offer a practical and effective way to connect from the comfort of your own home or workplace, no matter where in the Netherlands (or abroad) you are currently living. Many of our international clients appreciate the ease of scheduling, the privacy of speaking from their own environment, and the ability to continue therapy even if they travel or relocate.

For those who prefer to meet face-to-face, in-person sessions are available in our calm and welcoming practice space in Soest. Meeting in person can create a grounded and personal connection, which some clients find especially supportive in times of emotional stress or transition.

Both options are equally effective, and many people choose to combine online and in-person sessions, depending on their needs and availability. Whether you seek therapy entirely online, in our practice, or through a mix of both, our focus remains on offering a safe, personal, and professional space to support your wellbeing.

Our therapeutic approach

At our practice, we believe that effective therapy is built on empathy, openness, and collaboration. Every person’s story is unique, and we take the time to understand your experiences within the broader context of your life and environment. Our goal is to help you gain clarity, strengthen your emotional resilience, and find new ways to move forward with confidence and self-compassion.

Psychologist Willem Geraedts combines his professional expertise with a warm, curious attitude, creating a safe space for honest reflection and growth. His approach is grounded in evidence-based psychological methods, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – a structured, practical form of therapy that helps you recognize and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours that contribute to emotional distress.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – a modern, mindfulness-based approach focused on developing psychological flexibility. It encourages you to accept what is beyond your control, clarify your personal values, and take meaningful action aligned with those values.

  • Mindfulness-based approaches – techniques that increase awareness of the present moment, helping to reduce stress and promote a sense of calm and balance.

In therapy, we work together to explore how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours interact — and how you can use this understanding to make positive and lasting changes. Whether the focus is on coping with stress, building self-acceptance, or rediscovering direction and meaning, our approach is always tailored to your individual needs and pace.

Getting started

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel uncertain — especially when you are far from home or navigating life in another language. We understand that reaching out for support takes courage, and our goal is to make that step as easy and comfortable as possible.

If you are looking for a psychologist who speaks English or French in the Netherlands, you are very welcome to contact us for an initial consultation.
During this first conversation, we take time to understand your situation, answer your questions, and discuss what kind of support would best fit your needs. There is no obligation to continue — it’s simply an opportunity to explore whether therapy with Willem Geraedts and our practice feels like the right match for you.

Sessions are available online or in-person at our practice in Soest (Utrecht area). Together, we can find the format that works best for your lifestyle and preferences.

If you are unsure where to begin, that’s completely okay — we can guide you through the process step by step. Our aim is to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and supported from the very first contact.

Fees
An intake session (60 minutes) costs €190.88, and a regular therapy session (60 minutes) costs €168.94.
Our fees are in line with standard psychological services in the Netherlands.
For more detailed information about payment and reimbursement, please visit our Dutch fees page (“Tarieven”) or contact us directly.

In some cases, employers may be able to cover (part of) the costs of therapy, especially when the sessions are related to work-related stress, burnout, or professional development.
If this might apply to your situation, we recommend discussing it with your employer or HR department. We are happy to provide an invoice suitable for reimbursement.
